How many Levels are there in the Company Secretary (CS) Course?

There are three levels to the Company Secretary (CS) program in India: Foundation Program or CSEET, Executive Program, and Professional Program.

  1. Foundation Program: Entry-level CS course covers foundational knowledge and basics of corporate laws, governance, and accounting.

    Company Secretary Executive Entrance Test (CSEET): CSEET is applicable after Feb 3rd 2020.  After clearing the CSEET, they can register for CS Executive. It’s an alternative path to CS Executive Program.
  2. Executive Program: Foundation Program graduates can enrol in Executive Program to delve deeper into corporate laws, secretarial practices, and other relevant subjects.
  3. Professional Program: Executive Program graduates can proceed to Professional Program, which covers advanced topics in corporate laws, governance, and compliance.

    Each level of the CS course has its subjects and examinations. After completing all three levels and fulfilling other requirements, individuals become qualified Company Secretaries.

What are the eligibility criteria to study Company Secretary (CS) Course?

The requirements for enrolling in the Company Secretary (CS) program in India vary according to the level of study. The eligibility criteria for each level are as follows:

1.Foundation Program & CSEET

  • 10+2 high school graduates or their equivalent from a recognised board.

 

2.Executive Program:

  • Graduation from any discipline (except for the fine arts) OR
  • ICSI Foundation Program pass certificate OR
  • Foundation Program pass of CMA (Cost Accountancy).

 

3.Professional Program:

  • Executive Program pass of ICSI.

 

Exemptions are available for candidates who completed CA or CMA. Meeting eligibility criteria is essential for registration and examination appearance.

The following steps for CSEET registration

Step 1: Type www.icsi.edu in the browser, then click “Online Services” and “Register for CSEET”.

Step 2: Click “Proceed to CSEET registration” after ticking the required boxes.

Step 3: Enter the Basic Information.

Step 4: Fee Details.

Step 5: Submit Mandatory Documents.

Step 6: Application preview & Click on “Confirm Application” 

Step 7: Choose the payment method, then press the Next button.

Step 8: Generation of the Transaction Id – Record the Transaction Id for later use.

Company Secretary (CS) course is a highly reputed certification given by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI).

Company secretary will deal with the legal activities of any type of  business. The role of a company secretary is to take care of corporate governance, responsible for the administration of the organization, ensuring statutory & regulatory compliance, ensuring the implementation of the decisions of the board of directors of the company.

There are three levels. In the old scheme CS Foundation, CS Executive and CS Professional. In the new Scheme (wef. Feb 3rd, 2020) CSEET, CS Executive and CS Professional

Visit the in ICSI and click Register for CS Course under the online services menu.

Fees may vary depending on the level starts from CSEET - Rs. 1000
CS Foundation - Rs. 4500
CS Executive - Rs. 10600
CS Professional - Rs. 12000

After graduation you can skip the foundation level and enter the executive level. If you have registered after feb 2020. Then you have to do CSEET.

After 12th, Register your self in ICSI through old Scheme where CS Foundation will be the first level or new scheme (wef. Feb 3rd, 2020) where CS Foundation will be the first level .

CS Foundation and CSEET exams are conducted through online. Not all the exams

Company Secretary or Company Secretaryship

Once you registered in ICAI, the books will be sent to you through postal.

CS referes to Company Secretary or Company Secretaryship. A candidate who has passed the Professional level of the ICSI program can apply for enrolling himself as an Associate Company Secretary (ACS) and a person who has gained sufficient experience as a professional CS and has been an Associate Company Secretary (ACS) for at least 5 years can become Fellow Company Secretary (FCS).

First Step: Understand the Concept and practise all the questions and problems.
Second step: Workout past five years of question papers of CS.
Third step: Before appearing the exams, test yourself by writing some mock test papers.

Yes, CA Final and CMA Final passed students can do  Company Secretary (CS) Course. They can skip CS Foundation and CSEET Level and directly get into the CS Executive level

There are 21 subjects in 3 levels of CS Course.

ICSI conducts the exams in June and December every year. The exams in 2020 might be delayed due to coronavirus lockdown.

For May exams, 31st Dec of the previous year is the last date for registration
For Nov exams, 30th June is the last date for registration.
